A 42-year-old man classified by police as a high-value drug suspect was arrested while about P738,480 worth of suspected shabu was seized in a buy-bust operation in Valencia, Negros Oriental, on Monday, Sept. 14.
The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region identified the suspect only as alias “Dondon,” a resident of Brgy. Cadawinonan, Dumaguete City.
The operation was conducted in Purok 1, Brgy. Balugo, by personnel of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office’s Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit and Provincial Intelligence Unit, with support from the Valencia police in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
Police said the operation stemmed from intelligence reports that the suspect was allegedly involved in distributing illegal drugs in Dumaguete City, Bacong, Sibulan and Valencia.
Investigators alleged that the suspect received illegal drugs through a dead-drop arrangement before distributing them to clients in nearby areas.
Authorities conducted casing and surveillance before arranging an undercover transaction with the assistance of a confidential informant.
The suspect was arrested after allegedly completing the sale to a police poseur-buyer.
Police recovered eight sachets containing about 108.6 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated standard drug price of P738,480.
Also seized were a cellular phone, bag, improvised glass tooter, Suzuki motorcycle, and marked money consisting of one genuine P500 bill together with bogus bills used in the operation.
The suspect remains under the custody of the Valencia Municipal Police Station and is facing complaints for alleged violations of Sections 5 and 11 of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
PRO-NIR Regional Director Brig. Gen. Rudecindo Reales said the operation forms part of the regional police’s continuing intelligence-driven campaign against illegal drugs.*
