A fire destroyed the second floor of an ancestral home at Purok Mahimaya-on, Barangay Bata, Bacolod City, on Saturday night, July 25, causing an estimated P4.5 million in damage.
Bacolod Fire Marshal Superintendent Jenny Mae Masip said the blaze was triggered by an overheated desk fan that was left running in the second-floor master’s bedroom, where the fire originated.
Firefighters received a fire call at 8:41 p.m., with investigators believing the fire broke out around 8:38 p.m., she said.
The house is owned by Antonio D. Valderrama.
While the second floor was completely destroyed, the fire also damaged about 30 square meters of the 300-square-meter ground floor before it was controlled, Masip said.*
