Engineering crews have completed monthlong preventive clearing operations of key urban drainage networks and outfalls in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental, throughout July, aiming to head off localized flooding ahead of heavy rains.
The proactive maintenance campaign, led by the City Engineer’s Office (CEO), targeted heavy silt, overgrown vegetation, and accumulated garbage choke points blocking outfall structures, roadside drains, catch basins, and primary drainage canals within the city proper, a La Carlota City report said.
Field operations covered several high-risk residential areas and major bypass thoroughfares, including Pancho Villa Street in Uriarte Subdivision (Barangay III Poblacion), Red and Pink Streets in Canson Subdivision (Barangay II Poblacion), and the city’s Diversion Road.
Crews also tackled critical waterways near the BJMP Compound and extended operations to rural residential corridors in Hacienda Pacita and FJE/CAC Village in Barangay Batuan.
In an official status report submitted July 24, CEO representative Engr. Alberto L. Lorico Jr. confirmed that field teams extracted, hauled, and safely disposed of the collected debris.
