P33 to P40 daily pay hike for WV workers, P1,000 monthly for ‘kasambahays’ ok’d

The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) 6 approved daily minimum wage increases of P33 to P40 for workers in private establishments and P1,000 monthly for domestic workers in Western Visayas on Tuesday, October 22, Labor Regional Director Sixto Rodriguez Jr. said.

A P33 increase was approved for nonagricultural businesses with more than 10 workers whose employees are currently receiving P480 a day for a total of P513, he said.

A P35 hike was approved for nonagricultural businesses with 10 workers or less that will raise the daily minimum wage from P450 to P485, Rodriquez added.

He said a P40 increase was approved for agricultural workers currently receiving P440 for a total of P480.

Also approved was a P1,000 wage increase for kasambahays (domestic workers), which raises their their P5,000 monthly salary to P6,000.

The approved WV wage order will be submitted to the National Wages and Productivity Council for review to insure that we have complied with the basic requirements of wage fixing, Rodriquez said.

He said the wage order will then take effect 15 days after publication on or after Nov. 16, or one year after the last WV wage hike was implemented.

Rodriguez said although Negros Occidental is now part of the Negros Island Region it will be covered by the Western Visayas wage order since the NIR has no RTWPB yet.

Negros Oriental and Siquijor that are part of the NIR will also be covered by the RTWPB Central Visayas wage order, he added.

The RTWPB 7 on September 16 approved a wage increase ranging from P33 to P43 in Central Visayas. *
