Sales at the five-day Negros Island Organic Farmers’ Festival and Terra Madre Visayas slow food trade fair at the North Capitol Road in Bacolod City hit close to P1 million in the first two days, Acting Provincial Agriculturist Dina Genzola said on Friday, Nov. 17.
Sales on Thursday hit P533,730 and on Wednesday it was P429, 135 for a total of P962,865.50, she said.
Genzola is urging the public to visit the festival that runs until Sunday and support the participating organic farmers and fisherfolk by buying their produce.
“They are our food security heroes who need our help,” she said.
Visiting the festival will also provide one with the opportunity to taste delicious, unique and healthy food from the slow food communities of Western Visayas, she said.
She said there are bands performing nightly at the trade fair site starting 6 p.m. for visitors who come to enjoy the food.
“Bring your families and friends and enjoy the food. There are quail eggs adobo, mango ice cream from Antique and tilapia lechon – the food is healthy and delicious,” she said.
She said the Negros Island Organic Farmers’ Festival and the Terra Madre Visayas are being held simultaneously because whatever is produced by the organic farmers are being used for slow food cooking.*
