Sales at the 17th Negros Island Organic Farmers Festival and the 2nd Terra Madre Visayas in Bacolod City hit P314,507 on opening day.
The twin events being held at the North Capitol Road and in front of the provincial Capitol in Bacolod opened on Tuesday, Nov. 19, and will run until Saturday.
Organic farm produce, various other products and cooked slow food are up for sale at the 101 participating booths, Provincial Agriculturist Dina Genzola said.
Products from Negros Oriental and Panay are also being sold at the festival.
The organic agriculture area in Negros Occidental is 5,547 hectares with 4,117 farmers and 110 associations, Genzola said.
Meanwhile, Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco will be the keynote speaker at the Terra Madre Visayas program at the Negros Residences Thursday afternoon.*
