‘Opong’ destroys crops, houses, evacuees go home, one missing

The Severe Tropical Storm “Opong” evacuees have all gone home but it left P654,912 in damage to crops and livestock, an initial report from the Negros Occidental Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) showed on Sunday, Sept. 28.

The figure is expected to increase as more reports come in on Monday, Irene Bel Ploteña, PDRRMO head, said.

The initial PDRRMO report placed damage to crops in Moises Padilla at P633,651.

Eleven houses were destroyed and 46 were damaged in Moises Padilla, a press release from the town said.

Livestock damage in Bago City, La Carlota City and Valladolid was placed at P21,261

One person identified as Danny Luciano of Inayawan, Cauayan, was reported missing, the PDRRMO report also said.

The Bacolod DRRMO reported that 9,063 individuals (2,505 families) were affected by the storm.

It said 1,137 individuals (297 families) were housed at evacuation centers but have since returned home.*
