NIR regular, SK voter count hits 4.1M: Comelec

The Negros Island Region (NIR) currently has 3,097,201 registered regular voters, a figure that could  increase once data from all municipalities are finalized, Commission on Elections (Comelec) NIR Director Lionel Marco Castillano said on Monday, July 6.

Negros Occidental leads the region with 2,016,862 regular voters, followed by Negros Oriental with 996,328, and Siquijor with 84,011.

Castillano noted that these figures are still subject to change as the total voter counts for Binalbagan in Negros Occidental and Maria in Siquijor are currently being finalized.

In addition to regular voters, Castillano reported that there are 1,054,195 registered voters for the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) polls across the region.

Comelec data indicates that Negros Occidental accounts for the highest number of youth voters with 683,805, while Negros Oriental has 342,110 and Siquijor has 28,280.

This bring the total  regular and SK voter count to 4,151, 396 in the NIR.

The Comelec is expected to release the final, official list of approved voters for the upcoming Barangay and SK Elections soon.*
