NIR inflation rate drops

The inflation rate in the Negros Island Region was at 0.5 percent in June, 1.2 percent lower compared to the 1.7 percent in May, the Philippine Statistics Authority reported on Friday, July 4.

The PSA said that the headline inflation of the country is at 1.4 percent, with NIR only at 0.5 percent.

Neighboring regions also recorded a decrease in inflation with Western Visayas at 0.6 percent, Central Visayas at 0.2 percent, and Eastern Visayas at 0.7 percent.

The inflation in basic commodities in NIR also slowed down with food and non alcoholic beverages from 1.2 percent in May to – 0.3 in June, alcoholics beverage and tobacco from 6.1 percent to 5.9 percent, clothing and footwear from 3.8 to 3.4 percent;

Housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels from 1.9 to -1.6 percent, furnishings, household equipment, and routine household maintenance from 1.6 to 1.4 percent, and recreation, sports, and culture from 2.8 percent to 2.7 percent.

Health increased by 0.1 percent from 3.5 percent in May to 3.6 percent last month, transport from -2.8 to -1.2 percent, education from 14.5 to 16.5 percent, while information and communication remained at 0.1 percent.

Restaurants and accommodation services also stayed at 2.2 percent, and personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services at 2.2 percent, PSA records showed.

The National Capital Region had the highest inflation rate at 2.6, while the lowest was recorded at SOCCSKSARGEN and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao at -0.9 percent.*
