The National Food Authority (NFA) -Negros Occidental is working on a partnership with Bago City to buy palay from local rice farmers at a premium amount.

NFA-Negros Occidental Acting Branch Manager Glenda Paz told DIGICAST NEGROS on Monday, July 10, that they already met with the Bago City Agriculturist Marvin John Blance last week to lay down the proposal subject to the approval of Mayor Nicholas Yulo.

This project is under the Palay Marketing Assistance Program for Legislators and Local Government Units (PALLGU) of NFA.

Under the program, the legislators or local executives enter into a marketing agreement with NFA.

After the agreement, the local government unit or office of the legislator will provide a premium amount that will be added to the existing government buying price of palay which is pegged at P19/kilogram when buying the stocks from Individual farmers or farmers’ organizations.

NFA-Negros Occidental and Valladolid LGU entered into the PALLGU agreement last month where the municipality will add P1 to every P19/kilo buying price of the agency in the town, Paz said.

Paz also said that they are campaigning for this program to be adopted by other LGUs in the province to help local rice farmers.*
