The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) got a boost in its mission capability through the two Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) vehicles worth about PHP6.5 million donated by the city government on Wednesday, Oct. 29.

In a statement, Mayor Greg Gasataya said the armored tactical vehicles, considered the first-of-its-kind in the Negros Island Region, represent a firm step for Bacolod towards strengthening its defense against crime and disorder.

“These are symbols of the city’s readiness and determination to give our law enforcers the capability to respond swiftly and decisively when our people’s safety is on the line,” he added.

Gasataya turned over the SWAT vans to BCPO Director Col. Joeresty Coronica in a ceremony held at the Bacolod City Government Center grounds.

“The donation shows the city government’s continued support for the BCPO in strengthening its operational readiness and ensuring a safer community for every Bacolodnon,” Coronica said.

He added that the SWAT vans would significantly enhance BCPO’s mobility and response capability in addressing peace and order concerns, emergency operations, and other public safety endeavors.

Coronica said they also requested additional ammunition, ballistic shields, and level IV bulletproof vests for the city police force.*
