The rehabilitation of the 69-kilovolt Bacolod-Bata transmission line of the Negros Electric Power Corporation is now 70 percent complete and is expected to benefit more than 78,000 consumers once finished.
Negros Power said the project is targeted for completion by June 14.
However, the company said a series of scheduled power interruptions will be implemented in Bacolod City from May until the second week of June to allow the continuation of rehabilitation works.
One of the major interruptions is set on May 24, when the Alijis, Gonzaga, and Reclamation substations will be temporarily affected.
More than 78,000 consumers covered by the three substations are expected to experience power interruptions.
Negros Power said that through switching operations, more than 30,000 consumers will only experience a two-hour interruption.
Other areas under the affected substations, however, may experience a 12-hour power interruption from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Engr. Joe-Mel Zaporteza, vice president and chief operations officer of Negros Power, said on May 12 the rehabilitation is part of the company’s continuing system improvement program to strengthen reliability and reduce future scheduled interruptions.
The Bacolod-Bata line currently has a capacity of 175 megavolt-amperes, which is expected to increase to 220 MVA once the rehabilitation is completed.
Negros Power said the line will also be connected to the Capitol Substation, which is targeted for construction this year, and the Megaworld Substation, which is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2027.
The company said the completion of these projects is expected to help ease the frequency of scheduled power interruptions.
Negros Power has allocated more than P600 million for the Bacolod-Bata transmission line project.
The company added that any possible adjustment in power rates will still depend on approval by the Energy Regulatory Commission.
Negros Power said its total investments for various projects this year are expected to reach P1.5 billion.*
