ERC recognizes Negros Power for leadership in clean energy transition

Negros Power has earned national recognition from the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) for its outstanding contribution to advancing renewable energy and promoting consumer participation in the country’s clean energy transition.

During a ceremony held at the ERC Main Office on Friday, June 26, the distribution utility received a plaque of recognition for its exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to the implementation of the Net-Metering Program.

ERC Chairperson  Francis Saturnino Juan presented the award to Negros Power President and Chief Executive Officer Roel Castro, with Energy Secretary Sharon Garin joining the recognition rites during the commission’s 25th Anniversary celebration, a press release from Negros Power said.

The ERC cited Negros Power for successfully empowering the most Qualified End-Users (QEs) across the Visayas since the launch of the Net-Metering Program in 2014.

Through its sustained efforts, the utility has enabled thousands of consumers to generate their own electricity from renewable energy sources and actively participate in the country’s evolving energy landscape, the press release said.

The recognition highlights Negros Power’s role in democratizing energy access, modernizing the power sector, and accelerating the adoption of renewable energy technologies, it said.

According to the ERC, the company’s initiatives have set a benchmark for innovation and sustainability within the Philippine electric power industry.

In a statement, Negros Power expressed gratitude for the recognition and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the nation’s clean energy goals.

“We are honored to receive this recognition for our exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to advancing the clean energy transition,” the company said.

The utility noted that its successful implementation of the Net-Metering Program has encouraged more consumers to embrace renewable energy solutions and become active contributors to a more sustainable future.

As of June 19,  Negros Power reported a total installed net-metering rated capacity of 23,797 kilowatts (kW) across 1,471 qualified end-users within its franchise area.

The figures reflect the growing adoption of renewable energy technologies among households, businesses, and institutions served by the power utility company.

“This achievement reflects our continued commitment to innovation, sustainability, and delivering meaningful change for the communities we serve,” the statement added.

Negros Power also dedicated the recognition to its consumers, partners, and stakeholders who have supported its clean energy initiatives over the years.

“We share this award with you—our valued consumers, partners, and stakeholders. Thank you for your unwavering trust and support,” the company said.

The award comes at a time when the Philippine energy sector continues to push for greater integration of renewable energy sources, with net-metering emerging as a key mechanism to empower consumers and reduce dependence on conventional power generation, Negros Power  said.*
