Negros Power bolsters power grid with massive two-day rehabilitation

Negros Electric and Power Corp. in an effort to strengthen its power infrastructure and ensure reliable electricity for consumers completed a two-day massive rehabilitation project during the weekend.

The rehabilitation focused on critical areas connected to the Burgos Feeder 3 and the 69kV Bacolod-Silay Subtransmission Line, a Negros Power press release said on Sunday, Feb. 23.

The rehabilitation project enhanced the company’s power infrastructure, making it more resilient to potential typhoons and other adverse weather conditions, it said.

This proactive approach aims to minimize outages and ensure continuous power supply for residential, commercial, and industrial consumers across Central Negros, Negros Power said.

For two days, dedicated teams from Negros Power worked tirelessly, braving challenging weather conditions and accessibility to complete the extensive rehabilitation efforts, it said.

The project involved the replacement of 18 aging poles and installing 235 new pin insulators along the route from Barangay Granada to Barangay Alangilan.

Tree wires were also deployed along the same stretch, further enhancing the network’s stability, the press release said.

Along the 69kV Bacolod-Silay Subtransmission Line, an additional seven deteriorating poles and three insulators were replaced, further bolstering the structural integrity of the power network, it added.

These targeted upgrades are a crucial part of Negros Power’s five-year Rehabilitation and Modernization Program, which focuses on identifying and addressing high-risk areas to ensure continuous and uninterrupted service for all consumers.

“We are prioritizing preemptive upgrades to mitigate risks before calamities strike,” Engr. Mervin Dalian, Assistant Vice President of the Network Development and Operations Group of Negros Power, said.

“We are doing this Massive Rehabilitation in preparation for possible typhoons. We are addressing high-risk areas first so that when a typhoon comes, we won’t have problems. We have successfully replaced old poles and insulators”, he added

This proactive approach reflects Negros Power’s commitment to ensuring a reliable and efficient power system for the entire franchise area, Dalian said.

The company’s dedication to modernization and its commitment to addressing potential challenges before they arise is key to providing a brighter future for the people of Central Negros, he added.*
