Negros Electric and Power Corp. has completed major upgrades to its Panaogao and Sum-ag substations, marking a significant milestone in its ongoing efforts to modernize and strengthen its power infrastructure.
The Panaogao Substation in Silay City underwent a comprehensive maintenance program on Saturday, March 22, temporarily affecting 10,221 consumers, a press release from the firm said.
The following day, Sunday, the Sum-ag Substation received similar upgrades, it said.
These included protection system upgrades, installing new insulators, replacing disconnect switches, current transformers, correcting hotspots, and adding “tree wires”, Engr. Oscar Duca, Area Office Assistant Manager of Negros Power, said.
These measures are designed to reinforce power stability and reduce potential disruptions caused by environmental factors such as weather events or vegetation growth, he said.
“These two days of preventive maintenance have allowed us to make significant improvements and address potential issues,” Duca added.
“These upgrades are crucial for ensuring a stronger and more reliable power system for our consumers”, he said.
The rehabilitation efforts at the Panaogao and Sum-ag substations are part of Negros Power’s broader five-year rehabilitation and modernization program, Duca said.
This comprehensive plan focuses on replacing outdated equipment, upgrading critical infrastructure, and strengthening overall service reliability, he said.
By investing in these improvements, Negros Power is committed to delivering a more robust and efficient power system for the entire region, he added.
“We are committed to powering progress and driving a brighter future for Central Negros,” Engr. Bailey Del Castillo, Chief Operations Officer of Negros Power, said.
“Our investments in infrastructure modernization and our commitment to sustainable practices are essential for ensuring reliable and efficient power supply for future demands,” Del Castillo said.
These upgrades demonstrate Negros Power’s dedication to providing a more reliable and resilient power system for Central Negros, ensuring that consumers can enjoy a consistent and uninterrupted power supply, he said.*
