The Negros Oriental Provincial Price Coordinating Council (PPCC) has passed a resolution recommending the suggested retail price (SRP) range for pork, live hogs, and piglets across the province to curb volatile market prices and protect both consumers and local hog raisers during the ongoing African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak.
Under Resolution No. 1, Series of 2026, approved by Provincial Governor and PPCC Chairman Manuel “Chaco” L. Sagarbarria on August 6, temporary price ranges recommended are:
- Pork (Local and Imported): ₱240 to ₱290 per kilogram
- Piglets: ₱2,500 to ₱5,000 per head
- Live Hogs (Buying price, live weight): ₱150 to ₱180 per kilogram
The resolution was introduced following serious disruptions in the local swine supply chain caused by the ASF outbreak, which led to price instability across the region. Local authorities noted that while consumers must be shielded from excessive and speculative pricing, raisers, traders, and meat vendors also require a framework to recover legitimate production, transport, and operating expenses.
The measures were recommended by the council after a formal monitoring and price assessment session held at the Provincial Capitol on July 25.*
