Negros Occidental vaccinates 1.1 million residents

A total of 1,111,083 Negros Occidental residents or 60.87 percent of its target population have been vaccinated with their first dose of COVID-19 vaccines, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said Tuesday, January 4.

He also said 769,746 residents or 42.17 percent of Negros Occidental’s target population of 1.8 million have been fully vaccinated.

The provincial government needs to vaccinate 714,287 more to hit herd immunity, which it hopes to achieve by February, he added.

The local government units (LGUs) that have achieved more than 70 percent of their targets are La Carlota City – 112.03 percent, Murcia – 97.78 percent, Sagay City – 76.18 percent, Talisay City – 75.73 percent, Victorias City – 75.44 percent, EB Magalona -75.29 percent and Pulupandan – 73.43 percent.

The LGUs that achieved below 50 percent of their targets for vaccination are Calatrava – 37.48 percent, Moises Padilla – 40.90 percent, Toboso – 41.03 percent, Manapla – 43.38 percent, San Carlos – 44.19 percent, Cauayan – 44.21 percent, La Castellana – 45.09 percent, Isabela – 47.08 percent, Hinoba-an – 47.79 percent, Hinigaran – 48.73 percent, and Sipalay City – 49.11 percent.

Diaz reiterated the call for Negrenses to get vaccinated amid the threat of a surge in cases that could be triggered by the COVID-19 Omicron variant.

He also reminded those who have been fully vaccinated to get booster shots as added protection.*
