Negros Occidental PDRRMC raises blue alert for UNDAS 2026, issues safety tips

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Emergency Operations Center (PDRRMC EOC) in Negros Occidental has officially raised its status to Blue Alert effective Friday  until Monday, October 30 to November 2, , in anticipation of the high volume of public movement during All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day (UNDAS).

Under this heightened protocol, the PDRRMC EOC operates around the clock with detailed duty officers, standby response teams, and prepositioned resources to maintain close coordination with local government units and partner agencies.

Meanwhile, its Red Alert status remains active concurrently due to ongoing monitoring of Kanlaon Volcano, which remains under Alert Level 2 for intensified unrest.

The PDRRMC reminded residents to remain vigilant and report any emergencies by dialing 911.

In line with the holiday observance, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) also issued  safety guidelines for individuals, households, and travelers.

Before leaving their homes, residents are urged to unplug all electrical appliances, turn off LPG tank valves while verifying gas connections are leak-free, extinguish all candles and open flames, and securely lock all entry points.

Homeowners heading out for extended periods should also notify trusted neighbors or family members.

For travelers, authorities recommend securing personal belongings such as wallets and mobile phones, staying hydrated, wearing comfortable clothing, and strictly supervising young children with a designated meeting spot in case of separation.

Drivers are reminded to observe traffic laws, avoid driving under the influence of alcohol, and conduct thorough vehicle inspections using the “BLOWBAGETS” safety checklist—checking Brakes, Lights, Oil, Water, Battery, Air, Gas, Engine, Tires, and Self—before taking to the road.

Visitors at cemeteries are advised to place all lit candles in sturdy, secure holders kept far away from flammable materials.

Upon arrival at memorial sites, visitors should immediately identify nearby medical stations and emergency exit routes.

Parents and guardians must keep children closely supervised at all times in crowded venues and keep local authority contact details readily accessible to ensure a safe, orderly observance.*
