The Provincial Veterinary Office reported a P3.66 a kilo increase in the price of pork in Negros Occidental this week
The PVO also reported a price increase of P1.39 for carabeef, and P9.41/kilo for chevon on Tuesday, September 19.
The highest pork prices in the province were recorded in Pontevedra and La Carlota City at P295/kilo while the lowest was in Hinobaan at P210/kilo, the PVO report said.
Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Placeda Lemana said live weight prices of hogs have also increased to P150/kilo in Calatrava, Hinobaan, and the cities of Sagay and Kabankalan, and in some LGUs with no auction market, it went up to P165/kilo.
Meanwhile, the provincial veterinarian reported that only Sipalay City has been allowed to ship pigs outside of the island since they are the only LGU in the province that has a Recognition of Active Surveillance issued by the Bureau of Animal Industry.
This document is a requirement of BAI for hog raisers to export outside of the province to neighboring islands in the country.
Records showed that as of September 18, only about 1,330 pigs have been shipped out in the province, the lowest since January this year.
With this, PVO has assured that supply within the province is sufficient and prices are stabilizing.
Lemana urged the observance of biosecurity protocols by hog raisers in order to prevent a second wave of hog cholera and African Swine flu case in the province.*
