Negros floods affect close to 49K, body of 4-year-old boy recovered

Heavy rains brought on by the southwest monsoon triggered floods that hit Negros Occidental and Bacolod City during the weekend affecting close to 49,000 residents, and causing a 4-year-old boy to drown

The body of a 4-year-old boy from Barangay Taculing who drowned on Friday was found on Saturday, Sept.14, in the Singcang River in Bacolod, the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (DRRMO) reported.

The flooding affected 47,811 residents in 105 barangays in 17 out of 31 LGUs in Negros Occidental, the Provincial DRRMO reported on Sunday, Sept. 15.

There were 2,796 families with 8,953 individuals in evacuation centers, it added.

The PDRRMO also reported 69 houses damaged and three destroyed, and placed initial damage to agriculture at P7,390,214, fisheries – P398,112, and livestock – P233,971.

The LGUs affected are San Enrique  where  a declaration of a state of calamity has been recommended, Valladolid, Ponteveda, Isabela, Bago City, Hinoba-an, Sipalay City, Himamaylan City, Cauayan, Hinigaran, Ilog, Moises Padilla, Kabankalan City, Pulupandan, La Castellana, Murcia, and Binalbagan.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council has recommended the declaration of a state of calamity in San Enrique, which will have to be approved by the Sangguniang Bayan, Mayor Jilson Tubillara said.

In Bacolod City  1,007 residents  were in evacuation centers in barangays Alijis, Handumanan, Sum-ag, Pahanocoy, Cabug, Taculing, Singcang, Pta Taytay,  39 and Mansilingan , the City DRRMO reported.*
