There have been nine suspected leptospirosis, six dengue and four cholera deaths in Negros Occidental this year, the Provincial Health Office (PHO) reported Friday, August 4.
There were 23 suspected leptospirosis cases in Negros Occidental, with nine deaths from January 1 to July 29, a report from Dr. Girlie Pinongan, OIC Provincial Health Officer, said.
The deaths were in Murcia – 4, Silay City – 2, and Kabankalan City, Sipalay City, and Salvador Benedicto – 1 each.
The top 10 LGUs with suspected leptospirosis cases are Murcia – 9, Talisay City – 8, Kabankalan City and Silay City – 7 each, Himamaylan City – 6, Sipalay City, Salvador Benedicto and Victorias City – 5 each, and EB Magalona and Sagay City – 4 each.
The 20 to 30 years old age group had the most number of cases.
DENGUE
There were 793 dengue cases and six deaths in Negros Occidental from January 1 to July 29, Pinongan also reported.
The deaths from dengue were in San Carlos City that had 2, and Himamaylan City, Calatrava, Silay City and Bago City with 1 each, she said.
The dengue cases this year dropped by 74.62 percent or by 2,331 cases compared to 3,124 in the same period in 2022, she added.
The top 10 local government units with dengue cases this year are San Carlos City -105, Bago City – 84, Silay City – 58, Talisay City – 47, Isabela – 41, Hinigaran – 40, Binalbagan – 39, La Carlota City – 38, Cadiz City – 38 and Calatrava -26.
The oldest dengue patient was 91 years old.
The age group with the most number of dengue cases was 1 to 11 years old.
CHOLERA
There have also been 43 suspected cholera cases and nine confirmed cases in Negros Occidental this year, and four deaths, the PHO report said.
The 20 to 30 years old age group had the most number of cholera cases.
The PHO also reported 1,762 suspected hand, foot, and mouth disease cases in Negros Occidental from January 1 to July 29.*
