Negros cop faces dismissal after failing drug test

A policeman from the Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office is facing dismissal from public service after he tested positive for drug use.

This was announced late last week by Philippine National Police chief General Debold Sinas, who said Patrolman Nicolas Martinez was relieved from his post and is now restricted while undergoing pre-charge investigation and summary dismissal proceedings in the next 60 days.

He said Martinez and 53 other personnel were subjected to random drug testing conducted by Regional Crime Laboratory Office Region 6 personnel on March 16 and 18.

The 53 were negative from illegal drugs, while the screened urine specimen of Martinez was confirmed to have traces of methamphetamine or shabu, a press release from the PNP said.

Sinas said the PNP is intensifying their campaign to rid the police force of illegal drugs by conducting random drug testing in the national headquarters and other police units in the regions.*
