Negrense film bags 7 awards at CinePanalo Film Festival

Negrense film “Under The Piaya Moon” by Bacoleño Director Kurt Soberano bagged seven awards, including the Best Film award, at the first ever Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival in Quezon City, Metro Manila, March 16.

The film about a young man aspiring to continue the family pastry tradition by winning an inter-city competition, was declared the best feature film beating five other films in the first installment of the film festival by shopping brand Puregold.

The film was awarded Best Film, MTRCB Award for Responsableng Paglikha ng Pelikula, and technical awards for Cinematography, Editing, Production Design.

Lead stars Jeff Moses and Joel Torre, also a Bacoleño, were also awarded Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, respectively.

Soberano told DIGICAST NEGROS that he is honored by the recognition given to them, saying it was not an easy process but worth it.

“Under the Piaya Moon” is his directorial feature film debut, which he shot in various cities in Negros Occidental and involved almost 500 people as actors and production crew, Soberano said.

“I was inspired to make this film because my grandmother cooks good food for the family, and to make this more universal in a provincial setting, I focused on the rich native delicacies that our province has to offer”, he said.

He added that he is also thankful to his executive producers for their unconditional support and contributions to realize the film.
