NegOr rep to push for roads to spur NIR economic growth

Rep. Jocelyn Sy Limkaichong and NegOr SK president Jhon Michael Alvarez*

Rep. Jocelyn Sy Limkaichong (Neg. Or., 1st District) said she will push for more roads to connect Negros Oriental to Occidental to spur economic growth for both provinces.

Limkaichong, who was in Bacolod City for the Negros Oriental Sangguniang Kabataan Summit, said it is a first since the creation of the Negros Island Region (NIR) on June 13.

Under the NIR she hopes that groups from Negros Occidental will also hold activities in Negros Oriental, which also has a lot of interesting places to see and nice venues, Limkaichong said.

Bacolod is the City of Smiles and Dumaguete is the City of Gentle People “so I think it’s a nice collaboration for both provinces,” she said.

It is a nice start to the NIR for a Negros Oriental delegation to come to Negros Occidental for the SK Summit and to be warmly welcomed, she said.

The NIR is composed of Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental and Siquijor.

On the call for the inclusion of Siquijor in the NIR name, Limkaichong said it can be called Region 18.

Jhon Michael Alvarez, Negros Oriental SK Federation president, said they were holding their three-day summit in Bacolod in support of the recently created NIR.

There are more than 230 SK officials from Negros Oriental attending the summit that kicked off Friday, he said.

They will also be joined by some Negros Occidental SK officials, Alvarez said.

The importance of the NIR and their budget will be discussed during the summit, he said.

Alvarez said he is looking forward to more connectivity among the SK groups within the NIR.*
