Police in Negros Oriental seized approximately PHP8.4 million worth of suspected shabu and arrested 65 suspected drug personalities during enhanced anti-illegal drug operations in May, a police official said Wednesday, June 3.

Capt. Stephen Jaynard Polinar, spokesperson of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (NOrPPO), said the accomplishments resulted from relentless operations ordered by police director Col. Timmar Alam.

“The biggest of the drug haul is the incident in Zamboanguita town, where the suspect is a ‘repeat offender,’ previously serving a jail term before he was released due to some technicalities,” Polinar said.

NOrPPO records showed that 58 anti-illegal drug operations were conducted in May, resulting in the confiscation of 1,240.71 grams of suspected shabu, with six high-value individuals and 59 street-level individuals arrested. Police also recovered 50 marijuana plants and 20 grams of dried marijuana leaves.

Polinar said they continue their relentless operations as the province is eyed as a “trans-shipment point” for illegal drugs to other areas.

Other accomplishments for the period include the arrest of 112 wanted persons, including the No. 1 Most Wanted in the Negros Island Region. Police also seized more than PHP41 million worth of smuggled cigarettes in 46 operations, leading to the arrest of 12 individuals.

On loose firearms, police conducted 51 operations, arresting 17 individuals and confiscating 52 firearms. Meanwhile, 2,906 individuals were issued citations and 161 motor vehicles were impounded for violation of local ordinances under the Safer Cities campaign.*
