NegOr police, Comelec prepare for BSKE 2026

Police, election officials and other government and community stakeholders in Negros Oriental have stepped up preparations for the 2026 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections through a joint operational readiness activity.

The Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office participated in Project SAFE BSKE 2026 led by the Commission on Elections at Camp Lt. Col. Francisco C. Fernandez Jr. in Brgy. Agan-an, Sibulan, on Wednesday, Aug. 26.

The activity brought together representatives from Comelec, the Philippine National Police, Department of Education, judiciary, Diocesan Electoral Board, Negros Oriental Association of Concerned Citizens for Elections and other partner organizations.

Comelec Regional Election Director Lionel Marco Castillano led the activity, which focused on election laws and procedures that authorities may encounter during the conduct of the polls.

Discussions covered Comelec checkpoints, enforcement of the election gun ban, vote buying, warrantless arrests, handling of evidence, searches and seizures, hot pursuit operations and determination of probable cause.

Prosecutors, judges, Comelec officials and police officers served as resource persons during the technical sessions.

NOrPPO said the activity was intended to strengthen coordination among agencies and ensure that personnel understand the legal requirements governing election-related law enforcement operations.

Negros Oriental Police Provincial Director Col. Timmar Alam said the provincial police will continue coordinating with Comelec and other stakeholders as part of preparations to maintain peace and order and protect the integrity of the electoral process.*
