NegOcc’s 601 barangays get P120.2-M aid from Malacañang

The 601 barangays in Negros Occidental are set to receive a total of PHP120.2 million in financial assistance under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s Bawat Barangay Makikinabang Program.

Every barangay is allotted PHP200,000, half of which, or PHP100,000, will be used for educational aid of presidential scholars, with five students set to receive PHP20,000 each.

Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz II, who showed the check in a Facebook post Tuesday night, said Board Member Richard Julius Sablan, representative of the Liga ng Mga Barangay, and Provincial Treasurer Amy Grace Ofamin Bolivar claimed and facilitated the release of the check from the Office of the Executive Secretary.

“We support barangay development all the way,” Diaz said.

By Wednesday, village officials can start preparing the memorandum of agreement with the provincial government to facilitate the transfer of funds to their respective barangays.

Diaz said personnel of the Provincial Planning and Development Office and the Provincial Administrator’s Office assisted officials in complying with the documentary requirements to ensure correctness and completeness.

The Bawat Barangay Makikinabang Program, which directly benefits the 42,011 barangays nationwide,  is a dual-component intervention initiative by the government.

Its two components include educational assistance through the Bagong Pilipinas Barangay Scholars Program and assistance for Barangay-Identified Development Priorities.

The education component provides financial support to deserving and outstanding incoming fourth-year college students, while the barangay support component enables barangays to select and implement priority development interventions aligned with their immediate operational and community needs.*PNA
