Negros Occidental will have adequate rice supply despite the damage caused by Typhoon “Tino”, a Department of Agriculture (DA) official assured on Monday, Nov. 17.
The majority of the palay (unhusked rice) in the province was harvested before Typhoon “Tino” hit, DA Negros Island Region Director Jose Albert Barrogo said.
The notable damage was in San Carlos City, where more than 1,000 hectares of rice fields were affected, he said.
That is because San Carlos usually has a late harvest, he explained.
The provincial government reported on Saturday that Typhoon “Tino” caused P105 million in rice damage, covering 2,601.84 hectares in Negros Occidental.*
