NegOcc dengue deaths now 3, cases up by 335%, PHO says

Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson on Wednesday, Feb. 5, reiterated his call for vigilance versus dengue and typhoid fever as cases in the province increase.

He said typhoid fever and dengue can be avoided with proper precautions.

The dengue cases in Negros Occidental have increased to 509 with three deaths from Jan. 1 to Feb. 1, Dr. Ma. Girlie Pinongan, Provincial Health Officer, said.

She said the 509 cases were 335.04 percent more than the 117 cases in the same period last year.

Bago City still had the most number of dengue cases at 117, followed by San Carlos City with 44, Kabankalan City – 37, Silay City – 26, and Talisay City – 25.

The typhoid fever cases in Negros Occidental were 144 with two deaths from Jan. 1 to Feb. 1, Pinongan also reported.

Kabankalan had the most number of typhoid fever cases at 24, Hinoba-an 23, San Carlos City – 13, Hinigaran – 10 and Isabela – 9.*
