The House of Representatives impeached Vice President Sara Duterte on Wednesday, Feb. 5, and immediately transmitted the complaint to the Senate for trial.
Nine of the ten representatives from the Negros Island Region were among the 215 members of the House of Representatives who signed the impeachment complaint.
Rep. Emilio “Dino” Yulo III (Neg. Occ., 5th District) was not among the signatories.
The representatives from Negros Occidental who signed the impeachment complaint were Gerardo Valmayor – 1st District, Alfredo Marañon III – 2nd District, Stephen Paduano (Abang Lingkod) – 3rd District caretaker, Juliet Marie Ferrer – 4th District, and Mercedes Alvarez – 6th District).
Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya was also a signatory.
The signatories from Negros Oriental were Jocelyn Sy Limkaichong (Neg. Or., 1st District) and Manuel “Chiquiting” Sagarbarria – (2nd District), and Zaldy Villa (Siquijor Lone District).
The 215 of 306 House members were more than the 102 needed for a complaint to be transmitted to the Senate for trial.
The impeachment complainant lodged against Duterte cited alleged culpable violation of the Constitution, betrayal of public trust, graft and corruption and other high crimes.
The Articles of Impeachment against Duterte was received by the Senate Wednesday afternoon but was not reported to the plenary before it adjourned.
The Senate adjourned its plenary session without taking up the impeachment complaint.*
