Negros Occidental is the only province in the Visayas that has been classified as drought hit so far, a Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Visayas report posted Thursday night, February 29, showed.
A drought is defined as three consecutive months of way below normal rainfall condition or more than 60 percent reduction from the average, PAGASA said in its report dated February 25 but only posted on February 29.
Antique, Biliran, Capiz, Cebu, Eastern Samar, Guimaras, Iloilo, Leyte and Negros Oriental were classified under a dry spell.
A dry spell is defined as three-consecutive months at below normal rainfall condition.
Classified under a dry condition are Bohol, Siquijor and Southern Leyte for having experienced two-consecutive months of below normal rainfall condition.*
