Neg. Occ. allots P19M for tech-voc scholarships

Negrenses are urged to apply for various technical-vocational courses at the Negros Occidental Language and Information Technology Center as the Negros Occidental provincial government has allocated P19 million worth of scholarships this year, NOLITC Administrator Cristina Orbecido said Wednesday, May 17.

Orbecido told DIGICAST NEGROS that tech-voc scholarships are still available at NOLITC as they are targeting 770 Negrenses to avail of these programs.

This budget is a big leap from the previous P400,000 allocation to NOLITC during the pandemic, she said.

During the onslaught of COVID-19, NOLITC only offered online sessions and seminars as tech-voc students lacked needed equipment, Orbecido said.

She said that the P19 million budget for 2023 came from the Gender and Development Fund of the province with a projected P14M return on investments for NOLITC.

“With tech-voc courses resuming their face-to-face classes at NOLITC, this budget will surely help Negrenses increase their competencies in ICT-related industries,” she said.

This year, there are still 300 slots for Contact Center Services (CCS), 20 slots for Visual Graphic Design, 25 for Animation NC II, and 25 for 2D Animation that are up for grabs for any Negrense aged 18 years old and above and a high school or senior high school graduate.

There are 445 scholarship slots for competency-based training, 265 for institution-based, and 60 for industry-based training at NOLITC.

Aside from the tech-voc scholarships provided by the provincial government, NOLITC has also additional slots for various TESDA courses in CCS and VGD, Orbecido said.

Enrollment in the tech-voc courses at NOLITC is ongoing year-round. Orbecido said that those who are interested to enroll, can go to the NOLITC office or message the office’s Facebook page for more information.*
