Murcia Mayor Gerry Rojas and Vice Mayor Johnny Reosura honored and provided financial incentives to the Murcia Open Bible Christian Academy (MOBCA) Eagles Softball Team following their championship run in the 2026 West Zone Softball PONY World Series 14-Under Girls Tournament.
The recognition took place during a welcome program for the softbelles, who returned to Negros on August 11 from the tournament held in Hemet, California, USA, from July 28 to August 2, a press release from Murcia said Sunday, August 23.
Representing Team Philippines – Murcia, the MOBCA Eagles defeated taller and bigger international competitors to secure the title.
“We had no doubt in sending our players to play in the world stage against taller and bigger opponents… but you defeated them by a wide margin. Congratulations, and thank you for bringing pride to Murcia and to all Filipinos,” Rojas said, while also advising the student-athletes to balance their sports endeavors with their studies.
Reosura also commended the team for bringing pride to all Murciahanons and urged them to maintain their humility and strong work ethic.
During the event, head coach Edna Mae Severino announced that three team members—the pitcher, catcher, and center fielder—have been invited to join the Philippine Under-15 Girls Softball Team competing in the World Cup in China this October.
Rojas reiterated the local government’s commitment to assist the players so they can participate in the upcoming international meet.
Rev. Exequiel F. Guanzon, MOBCA School Chairman, thanked the municipal government for its financial assistance, which included a ₱100,000 grant for travel expenses and an additional ₱60,000 for uniforms.
