More relatives of officials of the 2nd District of Negros Occidental are running for key posts in the 2025 polls.
Rep. Alfredo Marañon III (National Unity Party/United Negros Alliance) filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for reelection as representative of the 2nd District before the Commission on Elections at the Social Hall of the Capitol in Bacolod City on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 5.
Also filing their COCs were the board member candidates of the second district – incumbent BM Sixto Teofilo “Pal” Guanzon Jr. (UNegA) and Arthur Christopher Marañon (NUP/UNegA) who is a third-term councilor of Sagay City.
Councilor Marañon was fielded by their party since Board Member Samson Mirhan is on his last term and is not up for reelection, the congressman said.
The councilor is the brother of Rep. Marañon, who are both the children of the late Negros Occidental governor Alfredo Marañon.
Rep. Marañon said if reelected he will continue his priorities to further improve education, agriculture, the environment and to aid the women’s sector.
He will also push for the setting up of satellite offices in the Negros Island Region.
The leaders of the second district led by mayors Narwin Javelosa of Sagay, Salvador Escalante of Cadiz City and Manuel Escalante of Manapla came in full force to support their congressman and board member candidates in their filing of their COCs.
SAGAY SWITCH
The congressman’s cousin Vice Mayor Leo Rafael Marañon Cueva (NUP/UNegA) also filed his COC before the Comelec in Sagay City to run for mayor.
Mayor Narciso Javelosa Jr. (NUP/UNegA) will run as vice mayor.
Javelosa said he is opting to run for vice mayor for health reasons.

The mayor’s nephew Cadiz City No. 1 Councilor John Vincent Escalante is running for vice mayor
He is the son of former Cadiz Mayor Patrick Escalante.
