Patrick Miguel Montilla has withdrawn his bid to run for board member of the 5th District of Negros Occidental.

He withdrew his candidacy by filing a sworn statement of cancellation/withdrawal before the Negros Occidental Commission on Elections office on Wednesday, January 29, Montilla said in a press statement Sunday.

Montilla said he withdrew his candidacy “after careful thought”, citing personal reasons.

He had wanted to run for board member because of lack of unified legislation in the province on road safety, public health, and on protecting stakeholders in the sugar industry, Montilla said.

Montilla said he has been exploring other opportunities that might provide faster and more efficient ways of realizing his goals without the need for him to be elected as board member.

He does not wish to preempt the outcome of these alternatives, which he and his supporters are still working on, but promised that it is all aligned with his desire to protect and secure the interests of the 5th District which will be revealed at the right time, Montilla said.

When asked which candidate he will endorse for congressman and for the local positions in his hometown Isabela, Montilla said the people are entitled to make their own choice which everybody ought to respect.

His nephew Juan Miguel Montilla is running for mayor of Isabela against Miguel Yulo, son of Rep. Emilio Yulo III.

Isabela Mayor Irene Montilla is running for vice mayor against Renato Malabor Jr.

Rep. Emilio Yulo III is being challenged by Board Member Anton Occeño for the fifth congressional seat.*
