Mapúa Malayan Digital College (MMDC), in partnership with the office of Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose “Bong” Lacson, has announced the continuation and renewal of the MMDC Abanse Negrense Business and IT Scholarship.
Initially launched last year, the scholarship was created in line with Abanse Negrense, a seven-point development agenda for Negros Occidental anchored on the principles of sustainable development and the attainment of the total human potential of all Negrenses. With education a key priority, this year, the scholarship will cover the tuition and miscellaneous fees of almost a hundred new and incoming college freshmen for their entire MMDC education, a press release from the college said.
All types of students from Negros Occidental are eligible to apply, with the exception of learners from Bacolod City. Scholarship grantees must take a full load per term, maintain a Term Weighted Average (TWA) of 2.50 or better with no failing grades or dropped subjects, and render three months volunteer work for any unit in the LGU of Negros Occidental, it said.
“As the working landscape continues to evolve, the value of a modern college education cannot be underscored,” Jenny Chua, MMSC Vice President for Marketing and Admissions, said.
“The MMDC Abanse Negrense Business and IT Scholarship opens doors for more Negros Occidental learners to develop the foundations to build lucrative and future-proof careers in the fields of business and information technology”, she added.
The continued move to provide greater access to higher education in the province complements the development of Negros Occidental as a hotbed for the IT and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sectors. With the provincial government planning to develop more hubs to attract and accommodate more IT-BPO firms, the MMDC Abanse Negrense Business and IT Scholarship aids in the creation of a steady pipeline of future professionals equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive amidst growing workplace opportunities both within the province and beyond, the press release said.
“Education remains to be the most important tool in giving solid opportunities to our young and even in lifting families out of poverty,” Lacson said.
“This scholarship is instrumental in ensuring the youth never give up on their dreams, no matter the hardships they face. May it equip the youth with the necessary training they need to transcend their limitations and be the best they can be”, he added.
With the MMDC Abanse Negrense Scholarship for Business and IT, both the Office of Governor and MMDC hope to provide quality education to deserving students, further empowering them to go places with Mapúan academic excellence, the press release said.
