Kabankalan Mayor Benjie Miranda said on Friday, August 2, that he is considering fielding his wife, Divina, as his runningmate, when he seeks reelection next year.
The mayor said if there is a Zayco and Zayco tandem for the top posts of Kabankalan City, there can also be a Miranda and Miranda team.
There are talks that former Kabankalan mayor Isidro Zayco may run for mayor with his nephew incumbent Vice Mayor Miguel “Migz” Zayco as his runningmate.
Miranda said he is still praying for guidance from the Lord on whether his wife should run as his vice mayor, which will be a last option.
Divina Superal Miranda is a public school teacher who teaches grade six students. She is also president of the Kabankalan teachers’ league, the mayor said.
There have been precedents in other local government units of husband and wife teams and the results have been good, he pointed out.
Miranda, who is a member of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino, said he told his wife if she wins as vice mayor she would have the opportunity to serve a bigger area and not just her students.
He won as mayor of Kabankalan City because of Divine intervention, Miranda said. “The masses are with me as proven in last election”, he also said.
He said the Zaycos are an institution in Kabankalan who served the city for more than three decades and did their best.
His goal is to improve on what has already been done for the city with innovations and digitalization, Miranda said.
It will be a battle between an institution and innovation, he said.
Meanwhile, he is pursuing the completion of the Kabankalan airport so it can become operational, Miranda said.
Miranda also said he is looking for a relocation site for the about 100 families in the airport vicinity.*
