‘Miracle’ baby born in quarantine facility

Glenda Hilado, Yvonne Buscado and Flaviana dela Guizon helping a Bacolod resident give birth at the ETCS 4 quarantine.

A 36-year-old Bacolod resident waiting for her COVID-19 test results gave birth while in quarantine at the Education and Training Center School 4 in Bacolod City Tuesday, May 24, Councilor Cindy Rojas said.

She said three of her staff assigned at the ETCS 4 quarantine facility stepped up and managed to help the woman give birth since she went into labor before they could rush her to a hospital.

“It was miraculous because Glenda (Hilado), Yvonne (Buscado) and Flaviana (dela Guizon) have had no medical training whatsoever, but they managed to bring into this world baby Gabriel. God certainly worked wonders in guiding the hands of these women to be instrumental in helping the mother,” Rojas said.

“Another quarantine miracle that shows us that indeed God is good,” she said.

The mother and baby were brought to the Riverside Medical Center because there was no available space at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH).

Baby Gabriel, who was born premature, is at the Riverside Medical Center Neonatal Intensive Care Unit but will be transferred to the CLMMRH Wednesday, Rojas said.

The mother’s test results that came out after the baby was born showed that she was negative for COVID-19, Rojas said.

The baby’s mother and father are from Barangay Sum-ag, Bacolod City, and make clay pots for a living, Rojas said.*
