“Plaza de MassKara,” a new 4,100-square-meter public space located within Megawold’s 34-hectare The Upper East in Bacolod City will open soon.

The curated plaza is designed to serve as Bacolod’s newest destination for culture, community, and tourism while paying tribute to the city’s iconic MassKara Festival, Megaworld First Vice President Harold  Geronimo said Monday, June  29.

The media was given a sneak peak of the open park on Monday situated directly in front of the soon-to-open Kingsford Hotel, which is anticipated to be the largest hotel in Bacolod City, he said.

The  plaza will be complemented by the “Reina de MassKara,” a 16-foot MassKara Queen art sculpture that will be installed on the hotel’s podium façade to be made by a local artist.

The park is  key township developments including the No. 1 and No. 5 Upper East Avenue office towers, the 12-story One Regis and 14-story Two Regis residential condominiums, and Upper East Avenue, Geronimo said.

“Every city or town in our country has its own plaza…here in The Upper East, we are curating another open park for every Bacolodnon and Negrense to enjoy, not just for relaxation but also for everyone to experience local arts, culture and heritage of the city and the entire province”,  he said.

The  park will host signature city festivities such as the MassKara Festival and the Bacolod Chicken Inasal Festival, alongside cultural performances, art installations, and weekend markets, he said.

It features benches, tables, and five-meter-wide al fresco promenades elegantly lined with palm trees to create shaded pedestrian corridors that connect the plaza to surrounding developments, including restaurants, cafés, and retail spaces.

Additional features include a public comfort lounge featuring dedicated restrooms for males, females, and people with disabilities (PWDs).

A prominent central compass made from decorative tile blocks highlights the North and East directional markers, pointing to the origins of the township’s name, while a large “Plaza de MassKara” signage is adorned with images of the iconic MassKara dancer.

Across from this signage, visitors can find two giant chessboards with movable pieces that allow them to play and interact with the entire space.

With the Plaza de MassKara, Megaworld aims to strengthen its vision for The Upper East as Bacolod City’s modern central business district, combining world-class residences and commercial establishments with meaningful public spaces that support tourism and enrich everyday life, Geronimo said.*
