Measures taken to improve Bacolod traffic management

Measures are being taken by the city traffic management team to improve the flow of traffic in Bacolod City, Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said Monday, August 14.

Benitez said the initiatives to improve traffic are being implemented by city traffic consultant Patrick Lacson and his team.

“It is a matter of ensuring the smooth flow of vehicular movement,” he said.

Drone footage of areas with heavy traffic are being taken to address problematic areas, Benitez said.

The city government is also buying more dynamic traffic light control systems, he added.

They work by adapting their timing to current traffic conditions. When there are more vehicles at one intersection, they will adjust timing to let traffic flow better, Benitez said.

Also being planned is the setting up of loading and unloading areas for public utility vehicles, to ensure a more orderly flow of traffic, he said.

Benitez said yellow boxes will also be painted on roads to indicate an intersection that has traffic flowing from multiple directions. A car should never obstruct that center space, he said.*
