Mayor Greg Gasataya is seeking the National Bureau of Investigation’s (NBI) help to unmask those responsible for spreading fake news that classes had been suspended in Bacolod City on Monday, July 21.

Gasataya, at a press conference, said he had already directed the Bacolod City Legal Office to coordinate with the NBI for a thorough investigation.

He urged the public to stop sharing false information, emphasizing that it causes unnecessary chaos and anxiety among parents and students.

The fake announcement, which falsely claimed classes in Bacolod City were suspended, was circulated on Facebook.

Gasataya reiterated that all official announcements are posted on his verified Facebook page and disseminated to legitimate media outlets.

“Please be informed that the City of Bacolod has not issued any suspension of classes for today, July 21, 2025. Heavy Rainfall Advisory No. 40 released by PAGASA this morning at 5 a.m. indicates that a suspension of classes is not warranted as outlined in existing Department of Education guidelines”, a post on his Facebook page said.

“However, parents and guardians are advised to exercise discretion in deciding whether to allow their children to attend school today, in consideration of their safety and well-being,” he added.*
