Mayor inspects P58M work at Libertad market

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia visited the Libertad Market to check on the progress of the P58 million improvement work, funded by the national and local governments, on Saturday, April 2.

Contractors told the mayor that completion of the improvement work is expected sometime in July or August 2022, a press release from the Bacolod City Public Information Office said Sunday, April 3.

The mayor was briefed by Supreme ABF Construction and Construction Supply, and the TMTC Construction Supply Corporation during the ocular inspection of the ongoing P50 million renovation projects coming from the Local Government Support Fund (LGDF).

The LGSF appropriation for the Libertad Market is part of the P150 million granted by the national government through the Department of Budget and Management in 2020 yet.

The implementation, however, encountered delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Leonardia explained.

The P150 million was equally divided at P50 million each for the improvement of the Burgos, Libertad and Central markets.

Because of other essential features identified by vendors and project planners such as elevator going to the market’s upper level, offices and dividers, among other amenities, the LGU added P8 million more to complete the Libertad project.*
