The MassKara sa Panaad is not competing and taking away revenues from other activities of the MassKara Festival in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental provincial administrator Rayfrando Diaz said on Tuesday, October 11.

The week-long MassKara sa Panaad at the Panaad Park in Barangay Mansilingan , which kicked off Monday, is being held in support of Bacolod City as it celebrates its annual festival, he said.

“It’s not competing, but in fact it is really joining and collaborating with the festivities of Bacolod City,” Diaz said.

Activities at the MassKara sites at the Bacolod City Public Plaza and the Bacolod City Government Center grounds are still bustling until the wee hours of the morning, he pointed out.

The Masskara sa Panaad is also being held to promote tourism and in support of cooperatives that are celebrating Cooperative Month, he said.

The officials and mayors of Negros Occidental are staging the Masskara sa Panaad “to show that Bacolod is part of Negros Occidental and Negros Occidental is part of Bacolod,” he added.

Diaz also said in principle Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson has no problem with the proposal of Victorias Mayor Javier Benitez, Negros Association of Chief Executives president, for the opening of the pavilions of the towns and cities of Negros Occidental at the Panaad Park to visitors once every month.

“It’s just a matter of getting into the details and implementing it,” he said.

Sub-meters will be placed in the pavilions of the towns and cities so that their local governments can pay for their electricity bills, Diaz also said.*
