Martin receives int’l award for sugar sustainable dev’t

Maria Regina Martin, Philippine Sugar Research Institute Foundation Inc. (PHILSURIN) director general, received a “Lifetime Achievement Award for Sustainable Development in the Sugar Industry” at an international conference in Quy Nhon, Vietnam, Monday, Sept. 16.

The award was given at the   8th lAPSIT (International Association of Professionals in Sugar and Integrated Technologies) International Sugar Conference IS-2024.

Martin, former administrator of the Sugar Regulatory Administration and a Negrense, was awarded for her work “to promote innovation and sustainability for the holistic development of sugar and integrated industries”, Prof. Yang-Rui Li, IAPSIT president,   said.

He said the award was in recognition of her excellent work.

Martin will give a talk on “Building resilient and sustainable Philippine sugar and bioenergy industries” at the international conference.

About 200 delegates from Thailand, India, China, Malaysia, USA, Indonesia Vietnam and the Philippines are attending the conference.*
