Maritime police arrest 3, seize P2.3M in smuggled cigarettes

The Bacolod Maritime Police arrested three persons and seized smuggled cigarettes worth P2.34 million in Brgy. San Juan, Binalbagan, Negros Occidental, Tuesday, Oct. 29.

The anti-cigarette smuggling operation resulted to the arrest of the owner and his companions who were in a closed van loaded with the contraband, a Maritime Police report said.

Arrested where Al Zubair Amilasan, 42, and Al Abdul, 40, of Binalbagan, and Renato Gaan, 40, of Brgy. 1, Isabela.

The overall estimated market value of the confiscated cigarettes was P2,340,000.

The confiscated and recovered cigarettes were inventoried onsite, and witnessed by Bureau of Customs 6 personnel and Brgy San Juan officials.

The suspects are detained by the Bacolod Maritime Police and will face charges for violation of Republic Act 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.*
