Marcos supportive of NIR revival: Abalos

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Benhur Abalos Jr. said presidential candidate Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is very supportive of the revival of the Negros Island Region.

Abalos joined a meeting of supporters of Marcos and Sara Duterte Carpio led by Negros Occidental vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer at Stonehill Suites in Bacolod City on Sunday, December 12.

He has not consulted Marcos on his position on land reform and on the sugar industry but he will convey the concerns of Negrenses to him so he can answer them during his visit to Negros, Abalos said.

Marcos will be a consultative president and will hear all sides, he added.

Abalos said Marcos and Carpio are expected to visit Negros Occidental in mid-January next year.

Abalos said they are confident the disqualification cases filed against Marcos will be dismissed for lack of legal grounds.

Marcos is leading in the presidential race that is why his opponents are working hard for his disqualification, Abalos said.

He said Marcos and Carpio, who have gained overwhelming support around the country, are the most qualified to lead the country.

They are not only working for a Marcos win but want to ensure that he will be a majority president, Abalos said.
Marcos, in a video shown at the lunch meeting, thanked the people of Negros for their support.

Among those present at the lunch were sugar leader Manuel Lamata, former mayors Sonny Coscolluela and Ricardo Presbitero, former board member Melvin Ibañez and other supporters of the Marcos-Carpio tandem.*
