Marcos assures agri aid for Kanlaon blast victims; coliform found in water

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.  said the Department of Agriculture is currently investigating the impact of  the Kanlaon Volcano eruption to ensure that appropriate assistance and initiatives are provided.

The DA 6 Disaster Risk Reduction Management Operations   Center and Livestock Rescue Evacuation Center are also providing aid for   farm animals affected by the eruption, the president said in his speech before farmers and fisherfolk at the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos in Bacolod City on Thursday, June 27.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development has also been assisting residents displaced by the eruption, Marcos said.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health is also continuing to ensure that residents of areas affected by the volcano’s eruption are drinking safe water to prevent an outbreak of diseases. Dr.  Adriano Suba-an, DOH Western Visayas regional director, reiterated on Thursday.

He said 13  water samples taken in La Castellana town tested positive for coliform.

Measures taken to ensure the public’s safety are the distribution of potable water, continued chlorination of water sources and health education on proper hand washing and cleanliness, he said.

Disinfection of water containers using aquatabs and chlorine before distribution is also being undertaken, Suba-an said. *
