Manokan tenants face closure again on Nov. 30

Manokan Country tenants face closure again on Wednesday, November 30, for reneging on their October agreement with the Bacolod City government that set a schedule for the payment of their rent arrears, Councilor Celia Flor said Monday, November 28.

Flor said while many of the Manokan Country vendors have not honored their agreement with the city, most vendors at the three major public markets in Bacolod have been compliant.

In fact there has been a big improvement in the collection of rent at the three markets from January to October this year compared to the same period last year, she said.

The increase in payments at the Bacolod Central Market has been more than P1 million this year, Flor said.

Meanwhile, many of the Manokan Country tenants who agreed to pay P25,000 a month for their arrears on top of their monthly rent have not paid the full amounts due, she said.

Stall rental at the Manokan Country is P2,250 a month.

Manokan stalls were also closed in October but were reopened after a day as tenants agreed on a new payment scheme for their arears.*
