Man hacked to death by nephew: police

A 38-year-old man died after he was hacked by his own nephew in Sitio Binucawan, Brgy. Manlucahoc, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental, on Sept. 30.

The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office on Wednesday, Oct. 8, identified the suspect only as alias “Toto,” 31, unemployed and a resident of Brgy. Manlucahoc.

The police s said the incident happened on Sept. 30, but was only reported to police six days later, on October 6, by the victim’s father.

The father said he was informed by his cousin that his son had been attacked and was found with hack wounds on his head, back, and shoulder inside a neighbor’s house.

The victim was brought by personnel of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office to the Sipalay City Infirmary, but was declared dead at around 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 1.

The family initially chose not to report the case, hoping the victim would survive, as the suspect was their relative.

However, following his death, they decided to pursue charges against the nephew.

The police are conducting a follow-up investigation to locate and apprehend the suspect, who remains at large.*
