Negros Oriental Governor Manuel “Chaco” Sagarbarria and Senator Loren Legarda are expected to attend the 16th edition of the Negros Island Organic Farmers Festival and the 1st Terra Madre Visayas in Bacolod City on November 15 to 19, Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said on Friday.
The Negros Island Organic Farmers Festival was always a joint effort of Negros Occidental and Oriental, Lacson said, adding that he is looking forward to Sagarbarría’s coming.
“We would like to see Negros Island become the food bowl of organic products,” he said.
He said Legarda will join the 1st Terra Madre Visayas as she is a strong supporter of the slow food movement.
The Negros Island Organic Farmers Festival and the 1st Terra Madre Visayas will be held be at the Provincial Capitol grounds, North Capitol Road, Negros Residences, and the Food Terminal Market of Occidental Negros (FTMON).
Sagarbarria has pledged his support to rekindle the partnership between Occidental and Oriental Negros, with the shared aspiration of making Negros an organic island, Dina Genzola, officer-in-charge of the Office of the Negros Occidental Provincial Agriculturist, said.
This year’s theme, “Regeneration for Future Generations,” will highlight the importance of eco-friendly farming practices, emphasizing the concept of sustainable regenerative farming, Genzola said.*
